Que Viva Los Survivors
Who we are…
Que Viva Los Survivors is a survivor-led 501(c)(4) social welfare organization dedicated to amplifying the voices of people impacted by childhood sexual abuse and ensuring survivors have a real seat at the tables where decisions about them are made.
Too often, survivors are spoken about in policy conversations but not spoken with. Que Viva exists to change that by centering survivor leadership, lived experience, and direct engagement in the systems that shape accountability, prevention, and justice.
Founded in New Mexico by survivor and advocate Lex Garcia, Que Viva Los Survivors focuses on survivor-centered public policy, legislative advocacy, public education, and community engagement. Our work is grounded in presence and persistence. We engage directly with legislators, elected officials, and community stakeholders to bring survivor voices into rooms where they have historically been absent.
We know that lived experience changes conversations. When survivors are present in the rooms where decisions are made, engagement increases — not just from the community, but from legislators and leaders tasked with shaping policy.
We believe in:
Survivors leading the fight for justice, not being sidelined or spoken for in decisions that shape their lives.
A system where justice is not determined by where abuse occurred or who the abuser was, and where no institution is shielded from accountability.
Challenging systems that protect power over people, and refusing to accept reforms that leave survivors behind.
Showing up where decisions are made, because real change requires survivor presence in rooms where policies, budgets, and laws are shaped.
Accountability that goes beyond symbolism, pairing survivor relief with structural reforms that prevent harm and protect future generations.
Nonpartisan advocacy rooted in lived experience, recognizing that survivor-led movements are essential to meaningful social welfare and lasting change.
Collective action, persistence, and courage, even when the work is uncomfortable, slow, or met with resistance.
At its core, Que Viva Los Survivors exists to ensure that survivors are not an afterthought in systems that profoundly affect their lives. We are committed to showing up, speaking truth, and pushing for change until survivor voices are no longer exceptional in these spaces, but expected.
